Friday, 2.30pm: CONCERN about the condition of Skegness Waterway was raised at Skegness Town Council's meeting on Wednesday.
Speaking during the public session, Del Claxton described the waterway as filthy and smelling really bad.

Mr Claxton added: "The council should fight tooth and nail to get something done, but East Lindsey District Council is trying to kill off Skegness."

Coun Pat Phillips explained the waterway is cleaned with a big net and workers try to pick up as much as possible.

She added: "We want litter and dog wardens and we were promised these things. We are trying to do our best but the council can only do that if we get a response."

Deputy leader of ELDC Coun Dick Edginton said: "People are less forthcoming to take on the franchise. This afternoon I inspected it myself and there was algae and two concentrations of rubbish at the north end.

"The rubbish is what people have thrown in to the water and it shows fellow citizens' disregard for the foreshore and contempt for the environment."

District councillor John Byford explained in the public session the waterway's condition is to be addressed in an area committee meeting on September 22.
