Thursday, 9.40am - A LAW student from Hogsthorpe has raised £1,800 for Medical Research Action, by taking part in the National 24-Hour Three Peaks Challenge.
David Marriott, 27, of West End, Hogsthorpe, took part in the contest with friends he met at the University of Huddersfield, where he has just finished a degree in law.

The challenge requires teams to climb and descend Ben Nevis in Scotland, Scafell Pike in the Lake District and Snowdon in Wales, all within 24 hours.

They failed to complete the course when their car crashed on the way to Snowdon, but sponsors still stumped up the cash for the charity, which works to develop cures for illnesses related to premature birth.

Mr Marriott, who enforces magistrate fines in Lincoln, said: "We didn't finish the challenge. We completed Ben Nevis in five hours 12 minutes and Scafell Pike in three hours 28 minutes, but wrote off the car before we got to Snowdon.

"I did my training by walking up and down Steep Hill in Lincoln, but the mountains were much bigger.

"There were six of us including the driver, and between stages we slept, ate, changed and washed."

When they crashed, Mr Marriott, who will attend Nottingham Trent University to complete his final law qualification, and his friends were in 22nd place out of 61 teams and he is determined to raise funds through another event.

He added: "I want to do something for a local charity, and maybe a different challenge."
